《新版中日交流标准日本语中级》自出版以来广受学习者欢迎。由于正式出版后,日本有关机构于2010年公布了对日语学习者具有重大影响的新日本语能力测试出题基准,且与旧版出题基准存在较大差异,致使该书所附日本语能力测试模拟试题不再符合新版出题基准的要求,而该部分模拟试题对于学习者模拟检测自己的日语水平十分重要。鉴于此种情况,编写组对《新版中日交流标准日本语 中级》进行了修订,即《新版中日交流日本语中级 第二版》。第二版依据新版出题基准,重新编写了相应级别的新日本语能力测试模拟试题,以替换依据旧版出题基准编写的模拟试题,同时更换相应的试题参考答案及录音文字资料等,以满足学习者应对新的日语能力水平检测需要。
