  重症医学是一门诞生于20世纪中期的临床医学,是一门理论上不断创新、充满实践活力的临床专业学科。重症医学主要研究急性脏器功能受损、复杂性感染炎症反应以及全身内环境紊乱的病理生理机制。临床上,以可能发生或者已经发生危及生命的器官功能障碍患者为诊治目标。
  重症监护病房或单元(intensive careunit,ICU)是重症医学的临床基地。目前ICU已成为实践基础医学理论和临床医学高新技术的重要前沿阵地。重症医学专业的医师、护士和相关技术人员是ICU的主力军,他们需要更为广泛的基础医学知识、具有较强的技术操作能力和敏捷的反应性。由于我国人口众多,经济基础相对落后,广大农村地区医疗卫生的财力、人力资源受限,重症医学理论知识和技术还不够普及,ICU(尤其是儿科ICU)体制和组织建设与发达国家有较大差距。近年来,我国SARS、手足口病等疾病流行,以及地震、洪水等公共灾难事件的相继出现,更突显重症医学理论和ICU体制的重要性。基于上述认识,由具有儿科急危重症救治丰富经验的临床医生和相关科室的专家共同撰写了本书。
