  第一章 园林史略
公元前13世纪的殷商时期,贵族们有了狩猎等娱乐活动时,便诞生了中国园林的最初形式——囿。囿就是人们对一定的地域(自然山水秀丽、林木水草丰盛)用篱笆或墙加以围挡,让天然的草木和鸟兽滋生繁育,也可在其中挖池筑台,供帝王贵族狩猎游乐。从园林的角度看,囿是一种相当简单的园林,其主体建筑是“台”,其功能除狩猎游玩外还能“观天象,通神明”。
秦始皇统一全国后,实施“大成阳规划”,其中在渭水之南作上林苑,苑中建造许多离宫,供游乐之用。此外,十分迷信神仙方术、幻想长生不老的始皇帝还在渭北建“兰池宫”,宫内“引渭水为池,东西二百丈,南北二十里,筑为蓬莱山”,营建成一方海上神仙乐土,也开创了中国园林筑山、理水并列造景的手法。
西汉时期(公元前206~公元23年),国力大盛。汉武帝刘彻扩建秦时上林苑,使其面积几乎囊括京城长安以南、西南面的广大地域,终建成中国历史上最大的一座皇家园林。西汉的上林苑具备了生成期古典园林的全部功能:游憩、居住、朝会、娱乐、狩猎、通神、生产等,特别是游憩、观赏的功能逐渐加重。汉武帝也信神仙之说,在长安城西建章宫西北部开凿太液池,池中堆筑蓬莱、方丈、瀛洲三岛屿,以象征东海三仙山,开创了我国园林“一池三山”的造园手法(图1.1)。
