楼庆西,1930年生,清华大学建筑学院教授。早年曾担任梁思成先生助手,后在清华大学建筑学院讲授中国古代建筑史,长期从事中国古代建筑历史与理论的研究与教学工作,足迹遍布全国各地,拍摄记载和呼吁挽救了一批古村落以及乡土建筑瑰宝。主要著作还有《中国小品建筑十讲》《乡土景观十讲》等。

序 1999年9月,北京三联书店的董秀玉总编辑到清华大学建筑学院,约我写一本《中国古建筑二十讲》,作为“二十讲”系列的一种。近些年,我虽为非建筑学专业的读者写过有关宫殿 建筑及门文化方面的书,然而还从未写过全面介绍与论述中国古建筑的专著,因此,这促使我对
建筑群体的组合釆取的是什么形式呢?一般来讲,它釆取的是由单幢房屋围合成的院落形式。两千年前汉朝墓中的画像砖上,就出现了这种院落式的群体。庭院分左右两部分,左面部分又分前后两重院落,由四周的房屋和廊屋围合而成,从前面的大门进院穿过中间的房屋再到后院的主要堂屋;右面应当是附属部分,这里有厨房、水井,还有一座高起的楼台,想必是作了望之用;画面上有席地坐在堂屋中的主人,在侧院扫地的仆人,还有鸡、雀、狗等牲畜,看来这应当是一所官吏或富户的住宅。这座住宅表现了中国古代建筑群体的基本形式,由房屋四面围合成院,即四合院,不同类型的建筑正是由这种基本的四合院单位组合而成的。 按《礼记》规定,帝王、诸侯、大夫、士各设有不同数目的宗庙进行祭祖活动,而庶人不允许设专门的庙,只能在家里祭祖。直到明朝,宗法制度进一步强化,朝廷才允许庶民建宗祠,《明会典·祭祀通例》中规定:“庶民祭里社、乡厉及祖父母、父母,并得祭灶,余皆禁止。”从此以后,老百姓有了专门祭祖的地方,称为祠堂。到了清代,祠堂大量出现,分布在各地。祠堂的功能,清雍正皇帝在《圣谕广训》中说:“立家庙以蔫蒸尝,设家塾以课子弟,置义田以赡贫乏,修族谱以联疏远。”家庙即祠堂,它的首要功能就是祭祀祖先,通过祭祖达到 敬宗收族的目的。设家塾、置义田、修族谱都是宗族的任务,这些任务又往往在祠堂或通过祠堂完成。不少地方,一族的私塾学堂就设在祠堂里或附属在祠堂旁;一族的公共义田也通过祠堂进行管理;凡修宗谱,一族之长在祠堂做出决定,选出合适人选,并在祠堂举行一定的仪式,焚香致词,宣告续修宗谱的开始。 宗族的作用自然还远不止这样几项,我们在各地的族谱中可以看到,其中多有不同的族规族法内容。某地的《范氏族谱》中有“宗禁十条”:“禁抗欠钱粮”、“禁毁弃墓田”、“禁违逆父兄”、“禁冒犯尊长”、“禁立嗣违法”、“禁詈骂斗殴”、“禁寓留盗匪”、“禁赌博造卖”、“禁奸淫伤化”、“禁健讼匪为”。某地的《费氏族谱》中也有罚例十二条,其中如:“忤逆不顺大患也,责四十板锁祠内一月;再犯,锁责如前。公议暂革出祠,侯其悛改复人;三犯鸣官处死。”“兄弟有序,以弟犯兄不恭,责三十板,以兄凌弟不友,责十板。”“侵蚀族内钱谷器物,除追赔外,轻者议罚,重者议责”。“纵妇不孝翁姑,不和妯娌者,查出重责。”在北方的碑文中也有相似的族规。这些族规书刻在族谱和碑石上,但执法却都在祠堂 ……
